§ 66-230. Purpose.

Latest version.
  • It is determined and declared to be necessary and conducive to the protection of the public health, safety, welfare, and convenience of the village to construct and maintain a sanitary sewer system for wastewater. The wastewater of the village shall be collected, conveyed, and treated in whole or in part by the sanitary sewer systems operated by the village (local), Cities of Milwaukee and Mequon (city), and Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD). The purpose of this division is to enable the village to regulate and maintain the local sewer system and to establish and collect from users those charges which represent the proportionate contribution by such users to local, city and MMSD systems as to:

    (1)

The cost of operating and maintaining the sanitary sewer systems; and

    (2)

That part of the costs of past and future capital improvements in the systems not defrayed by an ad valorem tax on real property.

Such charges are required to enable the village, city and MMSD to become and remain eligible for federal grants for wastewater facility capital improvements.
